What a calculator can—and cannot—tell you
A contained-metal calculation is a defensible starting point when weight, purity and reference price are known. It cannot identify an item, authenticate a hallmark, measure actual assay, determine gemstones or collectible value, or promise what a particular buyer will pay.
Before selling an intact coin, antique, signed object or historically significant item, investigate its non-metal value before authorizing destructive testing or melting.
