Palladium value formula

How to use the calculator
- Find a dated palladium reference price in US dollars per troy ounce.
- Identify its source, timestamp and whether it is bid, ask, midpoint, benchmark or futures.
- Enter the net weight of the known palladium-bearing alloy, excluding stones and unrelated parts.
- Enter palladium percentage. Convert parts per thousand by dividing by 10: 950 becomes 95%.
- Use 100% payout for theoretical benchmark value, then apply a separate documented payout assumption if needed.
- Compare with a buyer quote that discloses weight, assay, payable content, price basis and fees.
Hypothetical example
Suppose 5 grams of verified 950 palladium are modeled with a hypothetical $1,200 per-troy-ounce reference and an 85% payout. These are example numbers, not current market data or a typical payout.

Fineness, purity and authentication
Fineness is a mass fraction, not an item description. 999.5 means 99.95% palladium, 950 means 95%, and 500 means 50%. Hallmark formats and permitted fineness standards vary. A stamped mark can also be false or can apply to only one component of a repaired object, so testing may be necessary.
Which weight should be entered?
For a known homogeneous alloy, enter its net alloy weight. Do not count gemstones, clasps of a different metal, steel parts, packaging or dirt. For dental alloys and industrial material, composition may include other payable metals; a palladium-only model can understate total value while still overstating palladium if the assumed fraction is wrong.
Why industrial palladium needs an assay settlement
Residues, catalysts and sweeps can be heterogeneous. A representative sample, suitable analytical method, recovery terms and agreed pricing period determine payable metal. The result may include platinum, rhodium, gold or base metals as well as palladium. This simple calculator cannot reproduce that process.
Why buyer offers differ

- surface testing that does not represent bulk composition;
- non-palladium weight and mixed alloys;
- assay, treatment, refining, freight and minimum charges;
- payable percentages and recovery allowances;
- settlement delay and price risk;

Can I use a price per gram?
The input expects a price per troy ounce. Multiply a per-gram price by 31.1034768 first. Keep the original source and conversion with your notes.
Does the calculator include rhodium or platinum?
No. It models palladium only. Multi-metal material needs separate payable quantities and prices for every metal.
Is 100% payout realistic?
It represents theoretical contained-metal value at the entered quote, before transaction costs or spread. It is a benchmark setting, not a promised commercial payout.
Can palladium jewelry be worth more intact?
Yes. Design, maker, condition, stones, rarity and retail demand may create value beyond palladium content. Consider an appropriate resale appraisal before selling solely for metal.
